(BEIJING, September 11)  The highlight September 11 was the performance by British archer John Stubbs, who broke the Paralympic Games record in the Men's Individual Compound - Open category at the Olympic Green Archery Field. Stubbs' latest exploit comes just days after he broke the world record in the same event.

Men's Individual Recurve - W1/W2 (1-8 elimination round)

In the biggest upset of the morning session, top seed Taras Chopyk of Ukraine lost out to Ozgur Ozen of Turkey, 107-101. The Turkish archer dominated proceedings from the start and eased through to the quarterfinals.

Second seed Kim Hong-kyu of the Republic of Korea (ROK) also dropped out after Poland's Piotr Sawicki beat him, 104-99, in a closely fought clash.

Sawicki controlled the match from the start, getting the better of his ROK opponent in three of the four ends.

Third seed Lee Hong-gu of the Republic of Korea disappointed James Paul Browne of Great Britain, 108-103, in the second match of the day. Browne outscored his opponent in the first two ends, but failed to impress in the final two ends.

China's Cheng Changjie dismissed Malaysia's Zulkifli Zin Mat, 108-103, to make it through to the next round. In another match, Stephane Gilbert of France beat fourth seed Oscar de Pellegrin of Italy, 108-103.

Men's Individual Recurve - Standing (1-8 elimination round)

Defending Paralympic champion Imrich Lyocsa of Slovakia eased into the quarterfinals by defeating Japan's Hasegawa Takahiro, 100-94.

Lyocsa dominated from the start, getting the better of his opponent in three of the four ends.

Top seed Mario Esposito of Italy slipped by An Tae-sung (ROK), 101-98, in what was a nail-biting encounter.

China's Dong Zhi beat Athens 2004 silver medalist Tomasz Lezanski of Poland, 108-102 to make it through to the next round.

Men's Individual Recurve - Open (1-8 elimination round)

In what was arguably the most exciting clash of the day, top seed John Stubbs of Great Britain broke the Paralympic Record and skewered Eric Bennett of the United States, 117-114, to make it through to the quarterfinals.

Stubbs hit the bull's eye nine times in his record breaking performance. For his part, Bennett offered stiff resistance, hitting the bull's eye five times.

Pre-competition favorite Kevin Evans of Canada edged out Pavlo Nazar of Ukraine, 110-109, in a squeaker.

Evans' score of 28 points in the fourth end proved decisive and helped him edge past his opponent who only managed 25 points.

In a further match, Alberto Simonelli of Italy stalemated second seed Lee Ouk-soo (ROK), 115-112.

Women's Individual Recurve - W1/W2 (1-8 elimination round)

Second seed Fu Hongzhi of China easily whipped Britain's Kathleen Smith Critchlow, 97-75, to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Fourth seed Gizem Girismen of Turkey erased Lenka Kuncova of Czech Republic, 103-85. Girismen dominated the match from the start with a combination of nine's and a ten to maintain the pressure.

In other results Saitoh Ayako of Japan eliminated Britain's Kate Murray, 86-76 and Cao Xuerong of China knocked out her German opponent Tanja Schultx, 79-65.

Women's Individual Recurve - Standing (1-8 elimination round)

Second seed Gao Fangxia of China won a thriller of a clash against Kay Lucas of Great Britain. The match had to be decided by a shoot out after both archers were tied at 89 points after their four ends.

Top seed Lee Hwa-sook (ROK) unstitched China's Yan Huilian, 101-97, in what turned out to be a close encounter. In other matches Lindsey Carmichael of the United States recovered from a weak start to douse Magali Comte of Switzerland, 87-76 and Kim Ki-hee (ROK) refused Japan's Kimiko Konishi, 85-79.

Women's Individual Compound - Open Quarterfinal

The first quarterfinal between Japan's Kamiya Chieko and Sweden's Zandra Reppe was nip and tuck, with Kamiya winning the clash 107-106.

Top seed and world record holder Danielle Brown (GBR) reproached Wang Li (CHN), 107-81, in what was a one-sided encounter.

In the other quarterfinal match, Gulbin Su of Turkey wrangled Christin Ann-Nilsson of Sweden, 112-102.
